Workforce Development Certificates

In this orientation portal, you will learn about university resources and services that are available to you. We want to ensure that you have all the information you need to be successful while you complete Dominican's Workforce Development Certificates.
On this site, you'll find several categories of resources, which you can expand to learn more.
You can come back to this portal throughout your certificate program to access these resources.

✅ Checklist Items
- Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA):
- Students who are eligible for WIOA should fill out the required form during their Admissions visit.
- Your WIOA coach will give you a voucher within 30 days of starting classes at DU.
- In order to receive payment from WIOA, you must be attending and progressing in your course by Week 4.
- Pay in full:
- Payments are due in full by the first day of class. You will receive an email notification to your Dominican email address that your ebill is ready to be viewed.
- Log into MyDU with your network username and password, go to Students>My Student Account> Online Payment Center. On the Online Payment Center page you will see a portal on the right side called Your Bills and it is here you will find the link to your bill.
- You will not be mailed a bill. Accounts that are not paid in full by the first day of class will be charged a non-refundable $90 deferment fee. Accounts are also subject to a 1% finance charge on past due balances.
- Payment plan:
- If you are unable to pay in full, you can initiate a payment plan, which will be paid over the course of 16 weeks. Failure to make payment or to arrange a payment plan could result in the cancellation of classes.
- Payment plans must be established on myDU via the Cashnet link.
- There is a $45 fee to enroll in the payment plan each semester. Missed payments will result in a 1% monthly finance charge.
- We want each student to have the knowledge and skills to be an active bystander: someone who intervenes when anyone is observed being harassed or endangered by sexual violence.
- Dominican partners with Vector Solutions to offer an interactive, online Title IX training.
- You will receive information from Vector Solutions directly to your DU email address with information on how to start this self-paced training.

Technology Support
💻 IT Support Center
The IT Support Center is located in the basement of Lewis Hall, Room 048. The hours of operation for the Support Center are as follows:
- Monday - Thursday 7:45am - 7:00pm
- Friday 7:45am - 5:00pm
- Saturday 7:45am - 12:00pm
- Sunday 12:00pm - 5:00pm

🖥 Canvas (How to Access Your Course)
You will use Canvas to view and interact with course materials, view feedback, communicate with your instructor, and interact with other students.
Canvas is a web-based system, so it doesn’t need to be installed on your computer. However, you’ll want to make sure that your computer and web browser meet the basic requirements to run Canvas.

📧 DU Email & Office 365
Office 365
All currently enrolled DU students are offered a free Office 365 for Education account. This account includes an email address (username@my.dom.edu) with 50GB of storage, the ability to install the latest version of Office on personally-owned computers, and access to the online Office Web Apps from any computer or mobile device.
Email is an official form of university communication. Students are expected to check their DU email on a frequent and consistent basis in order to stay current with university communications.
Downloading Office 365
Active students are eligible to download Office 365 for their Windows PC or Mac free from the University. Office 365 comes with a full version of Office and familiar Office applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, OneNote and more. Office 365 is a user-based service and allows each student to install on up to five PCs or Macs, and five tablets and access Office mobile applications on iPhone and Android phones. That’s right, FREE! Here’s how!
Forwarding Dominican Email to a Personal Email Account
Follow the steps below to forward your Dominican email to a personal email account:
- Login to a Dominican email account by visiting https://outlook.com/owa/dom.edu
- Click on the gear icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen and choose View all Outlook settings
- From the list of options, click Forwarding
- Click Enable Forwarding
- Enter your personal email address in the box
- Check Keep a copy of forwarded messages
- Click Save

🖱 Navigating Zoom
To register for your free Zoom Professional account, simply go to https://dom.zoom.us/ and log in with your DU credentials. Once you've signed in, your Zoom Professional account will immediately be created.

🎓 MyDU
MyDU is Dominican's platform to access key information such as course schedules, registration, grades, and payment plans.
To visit your myDU account, click here. Take a moment to access your account and to get familiarized with the system.
🔔 Rave Emergency Notifications
Dominican University uses RAVE, a university-wide text alert service that will notify students, faculty, and staff of real-time information as a text to your cell phone if an emergency situation occurs on campus.
To sign up, visit the MyDU Portal to add and/or manage your cell phone from the Emergency Notification System link.

Whenever you spend time on any DU campus, you'll need your Star Card (Dominican student ID).
The Star Card serves an identification card; an electronic key card controlling access to campus buildings; it's used for campus printing system and photocopiers; to access student and employee discounts and DU Dollars which can be used to purchase goods and services at select locations on campus.
You can request a Star Card by emailing chicago.campus@dom.edu.
📑 Student Handbook
All those who enroll in the university accept the terms and conditions stated in the Student Code of Conduct and Policies. Students must also follow the policies and procedures in all university publications when applicable.

📚 Rebecca Crown Library
The Rebecca Crown Library (RCL) is an integral part of the culture and community of Dominican University.
In addition to supplying print and electronic materials, the library offers services such as reference, circulation, interlibrary loan and instruction.

Students with disabilities are encouraged to come to the Accommodations and Disability Access (ADA) Office in the Academic Success Center (ASC) to work with the ADA Team to identify reasonable accommodations. A number of assistive technologies such as Voice Recognition Technology, Reading and Writing Assistance Equipment are available as well.
